leveling specials

If i for example, use an Arlong 3* "shark on darts" to level an Arlong 4* "shark on tooth" is there a chance for special leveling for Arlong 4*'s special. Or does it NEED to be the exact same character.

It doesn't need to be exact same character, but the name of the special should be the same, for example Buggy have the same special in 3* and 4* so you can use the 3* Buggy to level up the skill of your 4*Buggy. But since Arlong 3* and 4* have different specials it won't level up your skill.
